Most Anticipated Movies of 2024

Jared’s List:

Every year, I look forward to seeing what kind of movies will come out. One of my favorite hobbies is going to the movie theater, and I try to see as many movies as I can! Some films are based off of franchises that I want to see on the big screen and some are smaller, more original films that catch my eye. This year, there are a lot of movies in both categories that I want to see. These seven movies are the ones that I want to see the most. My list could grow throughout the year, but as of now, these are my six most anticipated films of 2024 (with one honorable mention)…

1.

Argylle

Directed By: Matthew Vaughn

Starring: Dua Lipa, Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard

Release Date: February 2

Argylle caught my eye the moment I saw the trailer. First of all, it is directed by Matthew Vaughn, who directed the Kingsman movies and X-Men First Class. I am a huge fan of Kingsman: The Secret Service and its sequel, The Golden Circle. I love the way Vaughn directs action scenes and how he tells the stories of his movies. Also, this movie has a stacked cast. With Henry Cavill, Samuel L. Jackson, John Cena, Bryce Dallas Howard, Brian Cranston, Sofia Boutella and more. Argylle is the first movie of 2024 that I am seriously looking forward to, and I hope it delivers.

2.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire

Godzilla vs Kong from 2021 was the first movie me and my mom saw in theaters after their reopening (A.K.A. Covid times). The movie was a blast to watch on the big screen, and I hope I get the same experience with this movie. While I only consider myself a casual fan of Godzilla, these kinds of movies are among my favorite action movies to watch. Kaiju battles with a huge scope, big monsters and cities as their battlefields are usually a blast for me. Godzilla vs Kong delivered on the action on all cylinders, and with Adam Wingard returning as the director, I have high hopes that Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will be just as entertaining.

Directed By: Adam Wingard

Starring: Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Dan Stevens

Release Date: March 29

3.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga

Directed By: George Miller

Starring: Anya Taylor Joy, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke

Release Date: May 24

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga had my attention from the moment I saw the trailer. The movie looks so entertaining from the gorgeous visuals to the dynamic action scenes. It helps that I really like Anya Taylor Joy, who will play as the title character in this movie. She also starred in culinary thriller The Menu, which was one of my favorite films of 2022. I missed Mad Max: Fury Road in theaters which was really disappointing for me, especially when I finally did watch and saw how awesome the movie truly was. I want to see this movie not just because it looks amazing, but to experience a Mad Max movie on the big screen for the first time. I hope it is just as good as the masterpiece that came out nearly a decade ago.

4.

IF

IF is probably the biggest wild card on this list. Normally, comedy films like this would not be on my radar. However, the premise is very creative and the world from the trailer looks super imaginative. Not only that, but I really like Ryan Reynolds. He has a lot of charisma and solid comedic timing. I enjoyed him in Free Guy, Detective Pikachu and most of all, Deadpool. John Krasinski is also great as a director and as a star, with his work on the two A Quiet Place movies. Of the movies on my list, this is probably the one that I am the least sure about. However, the creativity of the premise and the talent behind the movie has me interested.

Directed By: John Krasinski

Starring: Ryan Reynolds, John Krasinski, Cailey Flemming

Release Date: May 17, 2024

5.

A Quiet Place: Day One

Directed By: Michael Sarnoski

Starring: Lupita Nyong’o, Alex Wolff, Dijmon Hounsou

Release Date: June 28

I am a big fan of the first two A Quiet Place movies. They are two of the few horror films that I love. The world-building is amazing, the characters are interesting and the stories are engaging. I was ready for another movie to come out, but not one quite like this one. This is a prequel detailing the origins of the creatures. Even with a new cast and director, I still want to see it. I think the world of A Quiet Place is fascinating and I would love to see more on the origins of the creatures and their abilities.

6.

Deadpool 3

Deadpool 3 is the comic book movie I am looking forward to the most this year. I am a big fan of both Deadpool movies. They have great raunchy humor and awesome bloody action helping them earn their R-rating. I got excited just from this movie’s announcement. Ryan Reynolds was born to play Deadpool. He nails the character’s snarky humor and lovable personality in every scene. What really interests me though is Hugh Jackman’s role as Wolverine. I cannot wait to see some of the interactions between him and Reynolds and to see what the vulgar anti-hero will be up to in this movie. One of my wishes is that there will be a Pokémon reference here after his Detective Pikachu role.

Directed By: Shawn Levy

Starring: Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Morena Baccarin

Release Date: July 26

Honorable Mention:

Mickey 17

Directed By: Bong Joon-ho

Starring: Robert Pattinson, Naomi Ackie, Mark Ruffalo

Release Date: Unknown

I do not know too much about Mickey 17. However, the little I do know has piqued my curiosity. First of all, it is directed by Academy Award winning director Bong Joon-ho who directed the cinematic masterpiece Parasite. Which is one of my favorite movies of the past decade. Plus, I really enjoy Robert Pattison’s work, especially his role as the caped crusader in The Batman. Based on Edward Ashton’s novel Mickey7, the premise sounds dark but interesting. An employee goes on a death mission and every time he dies, a new body is regenerated keeping most of his memories. This could be a great sci-fi movie that takes advantage of its intriguing premise. With Bong Joon-ho and Pattinson, I have a lot of confidence that this movie will deliver. As of now, the release date has been removed and there is no certainty when this movie will come out, but I will definitely keep an eye on it for more updates.
